my grandmother said: "if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing."

obviously, i have not followed this advice. but everyone falls for danah boyd's bullshit over and over, afraid perhaps of being accused of misogyny or an ad feminam attack.

she moderates her comments. fact.
refuses to get into dialogue with the young people she supposedly knows so much about and has made an academic career out of. fact.

she's an ani difranco fan. need i say more?

i agree that the walls should come down. but i don't need some asshole in a whimsical hat riding in on a one trick pony to tell me so while they pimp their "academic papers" and Nor will you get to see the cool articles on alternate reality gaming, crowd-sourcing, convergent mobile media, and video game modding that are also in this issue. and the award for most annoying poseur goes to...

Citing her position on this issue in no way constitutes wholehog endorsement of the author by the author. Indeed, her position is late in arriving. But anyone who gives a fuck about this issue is welcome to be part of my JSTOR thread, which will never end until all academic articles are free.
