from the Histories desperately needing to be written dept.:

A fine sentence:
In the history of balls, the world has never seen anything like the private contractors George W. Bush summoned to serve in Operation Iraqi Freedom. no byline

Thanks to Kia for the pointer.
Update: It's Taibbi (who else?)

With the assumption that these stories are more-or-less true, the malfeasance and fuck-youness is just staggering.

I have thought for some time that there is a strategery on the part of the current administration for the creation and eventual leaking of one outrage after another once every week or two ever since let's say 2002.

It recognized early it had the media in its mitts and so could act / pull of such stunts with impunity. By the time anyone might start caring, the outrages would be coming at them so thick and so fast that any countering of the tactics or attempts to rein them in, assign accountability would only end up confusing everybody or distracting from other more egregious outrage.

It's staggering, and makes my skull numb.

Emergent - new variation of Godwin's Law ?

How soon in a comments thread on an article about fraud and waste in Iraq before a reference to Milo Minderbinder comes up ?
