of democracy: the Red Queen

Three prisoners in Iraq. A second head sawn off, one to go.

We were offered a choice. Since doing nothing amounts to voting, we voted.

How does this differ, in substance, from democracy in the US?

I was thinking about being beheaded versus being beaten to death, or being tortured to death (days/months), or having broom handles shoved up ones' orifices until internal bleeding eventually results in death, or being electrocuted.

Although the beheading has the unique ring of savagery that feeds our American Crusader conscience, in reality it is probably a less painful way to go than several other alternatives.

The killing is wrong. But the means of murder--which seems to be the primary focus of the news media, evoking language ripe with "animals" "savages" and "inhuman"--is probably less inhumane than those COPS-show and Death-Row means execution we're so accustomed to.

Um, this is a pretty slow and nasty way to die too: http://www.iht.com/bin/print.php?file=540294.html

For the Mayans, beheading was an honorable way to die. It popped yr head up skyward, a good thing.

But regardless, the spectacle seems pretty much like all others.
